WHAT'S UP WITH YTV Firstly I have to say ytv has been going downhill these past years even without competition from fox (fox screwed up when they released the fox box crap but that’s a different story).
They've taken good shows off the air like, Pinky and the Brain, animanics and Looney Toons. I haven't seen any network sponsored shows in a long, long time. They haven't been making awsome network originals like Beast Wars, Reboot and Shadow Raiders(well you can see it late at night sometimes), they have replaced them with crap shows like .... eeeww transformers energon and dare I say the name, transformers cybertron, which have bad stories the always rely on the humans helping them in some stupid way.
That was just the American shows now onto Japanese shows.
So they decided to fill the void with Japanese shows, for which the most part , suck.
Shows like Beyblade(I think its Japanese, nuff said), Full Metal Alchemist(I don't know what the big deal is), Naruto(I actually like the show but the English dubs are horrible, "Believe it"), yugio gx(come-on its a show about cards, the 1st one was 'original' but this one is just plain bad) and Zatch Bell(Warning: Watching this show is not recommended by ANYONE, doing so will cause brain damage). I have had the unfortunate oppernitunity of watching this show and I swear I've become as dumb as brannen, well not that dumb but you get the point. I don't know why ytv thought switching the network originals out with lame Japanese shows was a good idea. Most of these shows suck and are completely pointless, again I'm talking about Zatch Bell.I think now ytv has realized their mistake because they have brought back a classic show, Pinky and the Brain but at a very late hour in the weekdays.
Finally they have actually picked out some good American shows.
One is Futurama, even thought they are horribly late.

The next is Invader Zim new to the canadian public, its an awsome show, if you loved Pinky and the Brain you'll enjoy this show. BUT unfortunately the idoits at YTV put it on at such a late hour that nobody younger than 10 can watch it (let alone stay awake for it)

YTV has been screwing up royally these past years. To sum everything up in the form of a question directed to YTV,
“What’s up with you man?”.
galleon- 10-10-2007
"Geee Brain, what are we going to do tonight?" Pinkey
"The same thing we do every night Pinky, get are show back on YTV again, and then TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD" Brain
There Pinkey, Pinkey, and the Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain.
Brannen- 10-11-2007
I have to agree with you though you have to rember they're not catering to us anymore. We are far from there key demographic. And if anime is what kicks these days want then that's what they will get. For some reason kids think only anime is good. (Oh a new anime must watch) Hopefully they'll pull anyway, at the moment it seems they are going for quantity rather then quality shows. I'm sure there was a bunch of crap on when we were kids.
galleon- 10-11-2007
Yeah, but it didn't suck so badly. I mean the stuff that was crap was in a way smaller dosage, you know, just enough not to kill you. But this just takes the cake, its shown in such a great quantity that kids these days think...."Ohh its anime its gotta be good" and they keep watching it even though it is bad. Thus YTV keeps putting out more of it.
Also I told you to delete this one not the other one, oh well leave it now.
Brannen- 10-12-2007
Now you get it. YTV dosen't care what they put on as long as someone watches it. It's the same with everything in the media. No one cares what they sell, show, or stand for as long as someone watches, sees, or agrees with them.
galleon- 10-12-2007
Yeah I know that already, I saying that there decisions just suck. I mean that they probably pay the same price per epsoide for any of these animes even though most of them aren't worth it(zatch bell). They could probably make a better show by spending it on a new tv show project, by not buying these shows. We would enjoy that said made show better than this crap. But there happy with feeding us lousy shows.
Brannen- 10-13-2007
The only way they will change is if people stop watching and not just you and me...everybody.
galleon- 10-13-2007
And that will never happen.
spartan1337- 10-13-2007
There's a reason Pinky and the Brain, animanics and Looney Toons got pulled off the air: no one was watching it. I used to but stopped when i realized they started showing re-runs over and over.
The funniest part of your post is the fact that the only anime you listed that ytv airs DO suck. you haven't listed any of the good ones. Gundam Wing (even though they've stopped, they did show it), Gundam Seed, Seed Destiny? Bleach? (Bleach especially is great in english.) Full Metal Alchemist? (ok i dont watch FMA BUT ITS STILL GOOD) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex? (one of the best animes out there my friend)
You are partly right though, Invader Zim and Futurama are the only good american shows they have. (I love Invader Zim) I used to watch Teen Titans when I was younger, too.
Oh theres also Malcolm in the Middle, which is one of my favorite live-action comedies.
galleon- 10-13-2007
Yeah, but you don't see teletoon pull looney toons off the air even though they have been re-runs for 20 years, somebody must be watching it if its not getting pulled off the air. The same reasion applies to those other shows. (well personaly I only like pinkey and the brain but it applies to other good shows like the old transformers and beast wars).
Your right I'm just angry about the anime that sucks because there is so much that does. Gundam Wing was pulled off the air which sucks because I liked it, and I think they only re-ran the series once. I don't like Gundam Seed/Destiny because the fights are just way too flashy. I don't get why people like Bleach or Full Metal Alchemist but I didn't think that sucks so I didn't list it at all. Although one time I was skimming through the channels and on Bleach I saw that the father of the bleach dude, taking off his shirt and telling his dauther to "give your hunkey dad a hug" then she hit him, I know that this was part of the comedy routine but it was pretty disterbing considering what could be implied. I don't like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex for some reasion but I can see why some people like it (some chick is running around with barely any clothes on doing something, I don't know what she's doing and I don't care. just never add anything to your everyday clothing selection and I'll keep watching). Just kidding about the last part.
For the Invader Zim and Futurama shows, I just don't like that YTV decided to put them on at some riduclous hour. I'm almost half asleep when Invader Zim is on, but thats also is one of YTV's stupid decisions. "Oh lets put a show on that has tremendous potential to attract a lot of viewers on at an insainly late time". My point, YTV makes bad decisions.
spartan1337- 10-15-2007
Yeah, but you don't see teletoon pull looney toons off the air even though they have been re-runs for 20 years, somebody must be watching it if its not getting pulled off the air. The same reasion applies to those other shows. (well personaly I only like pinkey and the brain but it applies to other good shows like the old transformers and beast wars).
The old Looney toons is more of a classic than Pinky and the Brain or Animaniacs, and if you've noticed, teletoon has a section of shows just for the really old classics. You shouldn't compare teletoon to YTV, they have different reasns for showing some of their shows.
Your right I'm just angry about the anime that sucks because there is so much that does.
Objection! :P for every anime that does suck there are 3 that are great, but no one except hardcore anime fans know about. Go to the top 50 animes list and pick out all the ones you know. how many do you not know?
Gundam Wing was pulled off the air which sucks because I liked it, and I think they only re-ran the series once. I don't like Gundam Seed/Destiny because the fights are just way too flashy. I don't get why people like Bleach or Full Metal Alchemist but I didn't think that sucks so I didn't list it at all.
That's not a fair way of arguing. You may think it's too flashy but other people really like it, they wouldn't watch it if they didn't. Seed is more popular than Wing ever was. I watched a lot of wing but never finished it, but I own every single episode of Seed, It has a great story. I didn't like Destiny as much myself though.
Full Metal Alchemist's art and story is what pulls people in. Watch the first 5 episodes, and trust me you won't be able to stop.
Bleach is also a good anime, though not as strong as Naruto.
Although one time I was skimming through the channels and on Bleach I saw that the father of the bleach dude, taking off his shirt and telling his dauther to "give your hunkey dad a hug" then she hit him, I know that this was part of the comedy routine but it was pretty disterbing considering what could be implied.
He's like that to everyone, especially his son lol.
I don't like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex for some reasion but I can see why some people like it (some chick is running around with barely any clothes on doing something, I don't know what she's doing and I don't care. just never add anything to your everyday clothing selection and I'll keep watching). Well that's you so tough luck. I haven't seen much of it myself but White Shadow loves the show. and she wears a full body suit. :/ the only skin you see is above the neck almost all of the time.
For the Invader Zim and Futurama shows, I just don't like that YTV decided to put them on at some riduclous hour. "Oh lets put a show on that has tremendous potential to attract a lot of viewers on at an insainly late time". My point, YTV makes bad decisions.
Invader Zim and futurama aren't for little kids, IMO. but I see your point, older teens also watch YTV and they should be treated equally as well. Perhaps not show those shows during the day, but maybe a little earlier in the evening.
galleon- 10-15-2007
The old Looney toons is more of a classic than Pinky and the Brain or Animaniacs, and if you've noticed, teletoon has a section of shows just for the really old classics. You shouldn't compare teletoon to YTV, they have different reasns for showing some of their shows.
Mainly because they never buy any new shows.
Objection! :P for every anime that does suck there are 3 that are great, but no one except hardcore anime fans know about. Go to the top 50 animes list and pick out all the ones you know. how many do you not know?
Ummm... that's a matter of opinion, just because an anime is on some list that japan-alolichs watch alot doesn't mean that everyone likes it. Anyways, how many of those top 50's do you see on YTV? Probably 3or4 and one of them (Naruto) has crappy dubs, making the show actually painful to watch.
I watched almost 2 eps of fma and I couldn't stand to watch it anymore.
Gundam Seed just seems to go in circles at times, I could watch 1 ep every 10 eps and still get the main story. At least gundam wing wasn't like that for the most part, if you missed 1ep you were almost completly lost in the next ep. That's what I liked about it, it was heading in some direction unlike seed.
I've got nothing against Bleach, I just don't watch it.
Ok, Bleach is one creepy ass anime, I mean if he's trying to cope a feel from his daughter, what is he doing to his son??? Now I've got something against Bleach.
Well that's you so tough luck. I haven't seen much of it myself but White Shadow loves the show. and she wears a full body suit. :/ the only skin you see is above the neck almost all of the time.
You can't defend something you've never watch before, it's against the rules. Anyways the eps I saw she was wearing barely any clothes, so I guess that's one of that show's appeals.
Invader Zim and futurama aren't for little kids, IMO. but I see your point, older teens also watch YTV and they should be treated equally as well. Perhaps not show those shows during the day, but maybe a little earlier in the evening.
Un-huh, and why should they get such a crappy time slot when shows like ghost in the shell shows sclandly clad women and Bleach shows intimate father-child relationships? How are Invader Zim and Futurama more "adult" then any of the other anime thats out there on YTV? If anything Smallville/Futurama should get Invader Zim's time slot, with their adult relationships and implied sex(well, only one or two eps but you get my point). How is Invader Zim not for kids with material like this:
forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=4534#4534" target="_blank">http://givingacrap.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=4534#4534
Seriously it was made by nicolodian (can't spell it), and you don't see them putting out anything other that kid friendly material.
spartan1337- 10-15-2007
1: They have a few new shows. Granted I don't know any names cause i don't watch teletoon as much, and those shows suck anyways. probably why you don't know about them either.
2: only anime HATERS would hate those award-winners of animation. and many of them aren't on YTV because they have too much graphic violence. YTV has a few shows like this, but they can't put THAT many. and yes, naruto sucks in english but is great to watch in japanese dubs, the WAY IT WAS ORIGONALLY MADE.
3: Gundam Seed does not go in circles, try watching it all in a matter of days and you'll see what I mean. In fact Seed's story actually progressed faster for the last 20 episodes then Wing did.
4: Now you're blowing this way out of proportion. The father is a caring figure, he justs acts over-energetic. (read: OVER-ENERGETIC, NOT PERVERTED). He mostly punches Ichigo. his character is a joker like that, He knows his kids can take care of themselves, and he acted like that knowing he'd get his ass kicked by his daughter, because she does it so often. It's a facade he has, to portray himself as extremely stupid, but later on in the anime he plays a greater role, is almost always a serious person, and rarely acts like that, thats when he shows his true self. He did it to hide himself from soul Society, and also because he thought his kids needed more attention ever since the mother was murdered.
5: Maybe that's true, I don't know. I did play the ghost in the shell game though, and she was fully clothed through the whole thing. and people don't watch the show because the main character shows some skin every few episodes, they watch it because of it's style, it's futuristic setting, and the show had the best animation out there gong for it at the time it was released. I may not have seen much of the show, but what I have seen is it's a lot like gundam, there is a LOT of talking, and the girl wasn't even there for a lot of the scenes in some episodes, and when i did see her she wasn't scantily clad, she was fully clothed and usually wearing a long overcoat.
The following is simply proof that ghost in the shell is more than an anime about a scantily clad woman, but is a well done piece of animation.
Quote Wikipedia:
The Matrix, a 1999 sci-fi action movie, contains imagery strongly influenced by Ghost in the Shell (as well as other anime). For example, the Matrix digital rain (the falling patterns of green text that represent the code of the Matrix) resembles the opening of the first 1995 Ghost in the Shell film. During the opening scene in which Trinity flees the Agents, the shot of the Agent landing on the roof is almost identical to a shot of Kusanagi during the pursuit of the first 'puppet' in the first film. Also, the shot in which the first puppet is fleeing Batou in the market in the first Ghost in the Shell film and a similar scene where Neo is fleeing a trio of the Agents in a real life market are linked by exploding watermelons and terrified civilians amongst crossfire (although Neo is not harmed). The famous lobby shootout features Neo and Trinity taking cover behind stone pillars, just as Kusanagi does during the battle with a tank. There is also a clear relation between the conception of the Matrix and the cybernetically enhanced brains of Ghost in the Shell. There are similarities between the plots of both movies. In the Ghost in the Shell film, Kusanagi is first searching for the Puppet Master to arrest him, while in the end of the movie, it turns out that the Puppet Master was looking for Kusanagi to merge with her. In The Matrix, Neo is first searching for Morpheus. When Neo finally finds Morpheus, Morpheus states that he was searching his entire life for 'The One' (Neo). Both series draw themes and archetypes from William Gibson's book Neuromancer and some of his other short stories.
The Wachowski brothers, makers of the Matrix trilogy, acknowledged the influence of Ghost in the Shell in an interview. Producer Joel Silver also admitted in an interview on the Animatrix DVD that he was shown the Ghost in the Shell movie during a pitch from the Wachowski brothers to indicate the style and look of the film they wanted for The Matrix.
The videogame Oni by Bungie Software was inspired by Ghost in the Shell and shares a number of similarities, especially the main character, Konoko. Deus Ex is not as tightly coupled, but shares the concept of merging human and artificial minds, along with weapons and technologies somewhat similar to those in the Ghost in the Shell universe. Although not part of the official Deus Ex canon, a fan-created mod called Deus Ex: Zodiac has a scenario where the player helps a version of Motoko merge with the Puppet Master. It is also notable that the Gunther Hermann character looks very similar to Ghost in the Shell's Batou, likely a reference.

6: quote wikipedia: Invader Zim is an American animated television series created by comic book writer/artist Jhonen Vasquez and aired on Nickelodeon. First broadcast on March 30, 2001 (the same day as The Fairly OddParents), Nickelodeon desired a show aimed at their older viewers.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invader_Zim
Anime is still considered more for kids then adults in America, and so Invader Zim is Pushed late because even the makers of the show say they wanted adults to watch this. it's not their fault that what they wanted was misunderstood.
Don't try to win this argument by stating anime is crap cause theirs so much implied sex. you haven't seen enough of any of the shows you are accusing to jump to conclusions. that's against the rules, you know.
Last of all, animation in japan is by far superior to animation in America, whether you hate the story, the characters, your opinion doesn't change that fact, and here's why:
Because Anime is treated more for older people than american animation is, The story-lines of anime represent most major genres of fiction and most motion-picture media. This means we get comedy, we get Drama, we get horror, we get action, we get sci-fi, We get Romance, in anime. Something that American animation has so far failed to do. Name one dramatic american cartoon, I dare you. Name one horror. Name one Romance.
Now let's try anime:
Drama: Gankutsuou, Death Note, Neon Genesis Evangelion
Horror: Vampire Hunter D, Chrono Crusade, Blood: the last Vampire, Elfin Lied
Romance: Love Hina, Fruits Basket, Fushigi Yūgi
And these are just off the top of my head.
Anime scenes place emphasis on achieving three-dimensional views. Backgrounds depict the scenes' atmosphere. For example, anime often puts emphasis on changing seasons, as can be seen in numerous anime, such as Tenchi Muyo.
Camera angles, camera movement, and lighting play an important role in anime. Directors often have the discretion of determining viewing angles for scenes, particularly regarding backgrounds. In addition, camera angles show perspective. Directors can also choose camera effects within cinematography, such as panning, zooming, facial closeup, and panoramic.
Lighting effects are used in conjunction with camera effects. For additional three-dimensional effects, various shades of lighting are used.
American Animation has yet to reach the quality that anime is at. Stories are better written, characters are more interesting and less cliché. that is why people prefer to watch anime over cartoons in America.
galleon- 10-16-2007
1. Yes they do suck.
2. I never said I hated them, I mearly pointed out that you can't love a list. And that is why ytv should probably add those shows if they are showing them late in the day anyways, rember "late in day = more adult themes". Also I do watch Jap Naruto because english Naruto sucks
3. How does seed progress faster then wing? Wing had only 50 eps.
4. I was just kidding, no need to go postal. By the way, didn't you just ruin the rest of Bleach's story for everyone by saying that?
5. O yeah that reminds me of why I don't watch it, they just keep talking and talking and talking.
6. You only need to see a couple of shows to get the gist of what a series is going to be like. Why are you trying to tell me that anime is automatically superior to everything, it doesn't matter because there are good shows and bad ones. I'm just saying there are a lot of bad anime shows on YTV, most of them don't demonstrate any superiority over anything. I'm saying ytv should try to make better choices in picking there shows. Anyways I like anime, gundam wing, naruto, hellsing, guyver are some of the ones I like, But I like those because they demonstrate this superiority, unlike the ones ytv shows. Don't try to turn this into an anime hating battle.
Brannen- 10-16-2007
Yeah Spartan you fell off topic a bit. The read is not about YTV having too much Anime or not enough. It's about why it seems to be making the wrong choices in what it shows. It seems Animes get preferentual (Spelling) treatment, which is not a good thing. Despite the quality of some anime. Soon YTV will become ATV (Anime Television)
